Holivans Awarded David Bellamy Conservation Award

This year Holivans have been awarded a Gold David Bellamy

Conservation Award by demonstrating policies which show an active concern for the environment.

The Award assesses the steps that parks are taking to:

• Manage their land as a haven for wildlife
• Reduce their use of energy, water and other recourses
• Reduce, reuse and recycle waste
• Support local communities.

You may have noticed a few flower beds popping up, along with log piles and interpretation panels for you to read. As it’s only our first year in doing this award I think that we have done extremely well, and hope to go for a Gold Award next year!

The Award would have not been possible without your support and many have shown a keen interest. So thank you to all those who wrote in and posted your comments to David Bellamy himself, a personal message from him can be found in Reception, so come and have a look what he’s said!

Fun Day raises £700 for children’s charity

The Fun Day was a huge success this year! Numerous stalls included hoopla, lucky dip, hook-a-duck, bean bag target and a darts and pool competition. Winner of the Children’s Fancy Dress Competition was a scary skeleton from caravan 102 and Cake Competition winners, Hazel and Desmond Summerfield made a super hedgehog and polar bear cake. The cake entries for the competition were auctioned off which made £40 (a well done to Iris and Pat for your entries!). The treasure hunt game was won by Caravan 166 who took home 2 cuddly gorillas, and the bottle stall went down a treat! The Darts and Pool Competition was hugely popular which was run by Ricky, who did a fantastic job on managing it and the winners got a stylish t-shirt! Fun was had by all and the weather kept fine...luckily! The main auction held in the Tow Bar in the evening made a huge £102 with intense bidding on the giant tortoise! For the first year of organising, I think we all did extremely well to raise such a large amount of money. A big thank you to all our volunteers, to those who donated raffle prizes, made cakes and for all your donations. Next year we are hoping to have a few more stalls and hopefully raise even more money for another deserving charity. The presentation of the cheque to St Andrews Children’s Hospice will take place in the Tow Bar on the evening on the 12th September 2009. Once again, the fun day would not have been a success without your valued support so thank you to everyone who helped.

A new development!

This winter we are hopefully starting building works to improve the Family room in the Tow Bar. If everything goes to plan, this project will be completed by April 2010 which will greatly improve the atmosphere and give that much needed extra space. A spacious Games room will provide the children with entertainment plus a relaxing family conservatory-style lounge overlooking the stunning Lincolnshire Wolds will create a lovely atmosphere. So watch this space!

Holivans Book Club as popular as ever!

This year many people have brought books to put into our Club to share with others. We are delighted to have seen so many people use it. The books are free to read, just simply replace the book your going to take with another! The Book Club is currently housed in the Laundrette, so if you fancy a good read whilst on holiday, then pop in!

A Reminder...

For the interests of your own safety, please remember that your caravan should be gas and electrically tested on a regular basis. We would recommend that you should do these important checks at least once a year for peace if mind. Please call in the Reception, as we have a variety of phone numbers for Gas Safe fitters and Electricians.
